Lower Kachura Lake is better known as Shangrila because of the resort built on its shore. The red roofed buildings, gardens and still water make it one of the classic photos of Baltistan.
Visitors usually walk around the gardens, take a boat ride and have tea by the water. Upper Kachura Lake is a short drive and walk away and is quieter, with clear deep water and a few small cafes.
It is an easy half day trip from Skardu and works well for families. Spring brings blossom and autumn brings golden leaves.
How to reach
About 30 minutes by road from Skardu city towards the airport side. Taxis and local cars from Skardu bazaar can take you there and back.
