Naltar is a forested valley north of Gilgit, known for its pine trees and a chain of small lakes whose colours change with the light. It feels very different from the dry mountains around Gilgit city.
In summer people come for the lakes, walking and camping. In winter the valley hosts ski events on its slopes, and the road can be snowed in.

How to reach
Naltar is about 40 km from Gilgit via Nomal. The last part of the road is rough, so most visitors hire a local jeep from Nomal or Gilgit.
