Baltit Fort

Baltit Fort was the home of the rulers of Hunza for centuries and looks out over the whole valley from its rock above Karimabad. After careful restoration it opened as a museum, with guided tours through its wooden rooms and rooftops.

From the roof you can see Rakaposhi, Diran and the Hunza river far below. The lanes around the fort are full of craft shops, cafes and apricot sellers.

Altit Fort, a short drive away, is even older and sits on a cliff above the river. Many visitors see both on the same day.
