Shigar Fort, also called the Fong Khar, was built in the 17th century by the Amacha rulers of Shigar. It has been restored with great care and now works as a heritage hotel and museum.
Visitors can tour the carved wooden rooms and gardens even if they are not staying. The town around it is green and calm, with orchards and the river nearby.
Shigar is also the road towards Askole, the starting point for the Baltoro Glacier and K2 base camp treks.
How to reach
Shigar is about 45 minutes by road from Skardu. The fort is in the centre of Shigar town.
