Phander Lake lies in the upper Ghizer valley, with clear water fed by springs and surrounded by green fields and willow trees. It is a favourite with people who want a quieter trip away from the crowds of Hunza.
There are a few rest houses and guest houses near the lake. Many travellers stop here on the way to Shandur, home of the famous polo festival held each summer.
Fuel stations are few after Gahkuch, so fill your tank in advance.
How to reach
Phander is in Ghizer district on the road from Gilgit towards Shandur, roughly 5 to 6 hours by car from Gilgit through Gahkuch and Gupis.
